What We Could Be
It’s easy for us to imagine going back to the ‘good old days’ – a time we imagine as simpler, more faithful, and better. Followers of Jesus are susceptible to this idea – that with each passing year we stray farther from the faith and success of our ancestors. But, of course, our ideas about how good things used to be are often wrong, or at least rose-colored. Indeed, God calls us to renewal, but not to reversal! God is faithful NOW, and is calling us NOW, to step faithfully into the work of God’s Kingdom. What if we understand our ancestors’ faithfulness not as the path we should take backward, but as the path that brought us to this moment so that we can go forward?
