General Rule #1: Do No Harm
In today’s post, Pastor Michelle begins a three part sermon series based on John Wesley’s Three Simple Rules. In the coming weeks, Michelle and Jayde will discuss the rules and how they are still very relevant in our lives today. This week, read Mark 12: 28-34 and consider the questions below as you prepare for Sunday’s sermon, An Introduction and General Rule #1: Do No Harm.
Questions for reflection: Why is it important to “do no harm” and what are some ways we can avoid doing harm to ourselves, others, and creation? How can you intentionally “do no harm” this week?
The songlist for the service includes: Create in Me a Clean Heart by Brown Bannister (SMA Band), Make Me a Servant, TFWS # 2176 (SMA Band), God’s Amazing Grace, Arranged by Howard F. Starks (Vesper Bells), and By Our Love, by Christy Nockels (Chris Rust).

Bell choir much appreciated. Sermon interesting and so very appropriate. Wesley would be making the same decisions were he among us today. Interesting that our response to the pandemic teeters on selfish interest vs. greater good. Decisions are “hard” when there’s a hint of giving up self-interest (comfort, ease, “right,” freedom) in favor of greater good. sigh
