A Palm Sunday Call to Worship
Bob Pearson
This is the day that the Lord has made:
let us rejoice and be glad in it
This is the gate of the Lord;
the just shall enter through it.
This is the Lord’s doing;
it is marvelous in our eyes.
Save us, we beg you O Lord.
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
The Lord is God, and God has given us light.
Praise God on the way to the altar with branches
O give thanks to the Lord, for God is good.
God’s steadfast love endures, forever!
* Based on Psalm 118: 19-29
A Prayer for Palm Sunday
Bob Pearson
O God, we are like the people of Jerusalem so long ago.
We are hungry for a hero.
We crave some glimpse of greatness.
We are starving for the spectacular.
We are gathered here like those who watched
the Passion-Parade in Jerusalem,
craning our necks to catch a glimpse of our Messiah.
As we wait here for the Savior to come
let us not be disappointed when the special one appears
even though we are certain to be surprised
and give us courage to follow
where the one on the donkey might lead us

Prayer for Illumination

We await the strengthening power of your Word
O God of hope.
Help us, then,
to remember your wonders of old
to meditate on all of your work
both day and night,
Let us be trees planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in due season.
By the goodness of your Spirit,
make us fruitful branches
as we ponder anew what you say to us: through Jesus Christ,
the true vine,
the one who comes to Save
the one whose love for us is better than life
the one who for whom the parade route ends all too soon. Amen ~This Day, A Wesleyan Way of Prayer
