We Prepare: Advent 2
This Sunday is the Second Sunday in Advent.
Waiting in Advent is not just passive. It is a chance to prepare. Just as when we wait for the arrival of family members, we make our homes ready, as we await the arrival of Christ, we make our lives and world ready.
Join us on Sunday morning, December 10, for worship at 9:00 in the Fellowship Hall. You can view the livestream at 9:00 or any time after. (We will be livestreaming from the Fellowship Hall for the month of December, except on Christmas Eve night, when the livestream will be from the Sanctuary at 9:00pm.)
Read Mark 1:1-8 and Isaiah 40:1-11 in preparation for Sunday’s sermon “We Prepare.”
You can download the bulletins from the December 7 or December 10 QuickNews.
About the image: John the Baptist preaching in the desert JESUS MAFA, Cameroon, 1973
JESUS MAFA is a response to the New Testament readings from the Lectionary by a Christian community in Cameroon, Africa. Each of the readings was selected and adapted to dramatic interpretation by the community members. Photographs of their interpretations were made, and these were then transcribed to paintings. John the Baptist dramatically preaches by the water’s edge to his audience that consists of common people as well as religious leaders. He appears to be in the middle of his harsh pronouncement on the Pharisees and Sadducees, calling them a “brood of vipers.” They stand at the right-hand side of the painting, arms folded, seemingly indignant at John’s words. The rest of the crowd watches and listens intently to John, curious and enthralled by the scene before them. In the distance there are some figures approaching the group. Could it be Jesus on the way to his baptism?
