Formation
It matters to us that our students have space to develop their faith and their own understanding of who they are and we do this through Sunday School, Youth Group, service projects, and worship participation. Throughout their time in the youth ministry, Middle School students also have the opportunity to service in worship, service work, and the many other ministries of the church.
One of the best parts of Middle School is Confirmation. Each spring, our students engage with other faiths and dive into their own. There are retreats, dinners, classes, a special service project, and of course fun! In 8th grade, each student is partnered with an adult mentor to guide and offer new and different perspectives.
Connection
We have time to connect on Sunday mornings and evenings throughout the month. Our students gather for a conversation over scripture and how it is relevant in their everyday lives. On Sunday nights we check-in with each other, to have fun, to have conversations about faith, and to try different faith practices. This year we have been focusing on ways we can lean into our faith and develop resiliency in this difficult season. We’ve practiced mindfulness, contemplative prayer practices, and even cooking together! Whether we are online or in person at Sunday School and Youth Group students have space to ask questions, to engage their faith and doubts, and to be themselves. And we always enjoy activities like Big Game Nights, Mystery Trips, creative nights, or going on hikes.
Service
Our Youth Have a Heart for Service! The youth program is grounded in service. Throughout the year we also have a variety of other service experiences for both our Middle School and High School Students. Our big hope for this summer is that our High School students are able to lead a mini-mission trip experience for our Middle School students. Students will “camp out” at the church over the weekend and work with our neighbors experiencing houselessness in Portland.
