Pastor Michelle continues her four week sermon series Letters to the Church in Uncertain Times in this video with Week 3: “The Right Stuff.”
As the world may consider the church and its message foolish and anemic, Paul reminds us “God chose what was weak in this world to cofound the strong.” When we consider our own call, do we have “the right stuff to be practitioners of something so brilliant and powerful? What does it take, really?
Read I Corinthians 1: 18-31 and consider the questions below to prepare for the message.
Questions for Reflection (in this sermon and beyond)
1. How do you best come to know God? Through heart? Head? The preached/lived Word? Service?
2. Theologically speaking, who makes the first move in the divine/human relationship? What does this mean ultimately?
3. How does the wisdom of God compare to that of the world? Talk about Paul’s theology of the cross/the doctrine of atonement and why for some it is “good news” and for others, it’s troubling.
4. Consider the relationship between humility and giftedness. What does it mean to have “the right stuff” for ministry (despite our inadequacies) and to live most fully into that call?
