Connecting to God

We are spiritually centered in our personal connection to the mystery of God and to the life-giving power of Christ’s love and grace.  We find strength and inspiration in God and in the diverse Body of Christ as we grow in our relationship with the Divine Presence in our lives.

Connecting to Each Other

We value the diversity that enriches our community of faith.  We strive to be an effective invitational Christian family, gathered for worship, education, service and support for individuals and families, as we build each other up in love.

 Connecting to the World

We commit to be a responsive faith presence through service and mission and justice in the extended community and the world.  We want to be known in our community and world as a church that actively cares about social justice concerns and challenges societal assumptions in light of the Gospel message.

We commit ourselves to strengthening Lake Oswego United Methodist Church as a dynamic spiritual center, connecting to God, to each other, and to the world.

Resolution of Welcome and Inclusivity

October 7, 2012

Whereas, the Vision Statement of Lake Oswego United Methodist Church declares that we are a diverse faith community striving to follow Jesus and that we value the diversity that enriches our community of faith;

Whereas, the Lake Oswego United Methodist Church Administrative Council has adopted an inclusive policy regarding church membership: Lake Oswego United Methodist Church membership is open to all people who declare the Christian faith;

Whereas, our Invitation to the Table of Holy Communion reminds us that ours is not a denominational table, and that everyone who wishes to draw nearer to Jesus Christ is invited to partake of the Sacrament;

Whereas, The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church affirms that all persons are individuals of sacred worth, created in the image of God, and that we commit ourselves to be in ministry for and with all persons;

Therefore let it be resolved that Lake Oswego United Methodist Church adopts the following Statements of Welcome and Inclusivity:

Lake Oswego United Methodist Church affirms that all individuals are of sacred worth, without exception. All means all. We commit ourselves to be in ministry for and with all persons, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, economic condition, marital status, or abilities. We welcome all persons who seek God’s love through Jesus Christ and who desire to journey together toward greater understanding and mutual respect.
